Minutes:

Post-Downing Formal

  • £177 intake
  • All but three payments have been collected
  • Outstanding payments: Harry (hh328) to be paid back for booking Fresher's Fair
  • Yi paid
  • Action: Lynn (elk31) to contact Emma in regards to late payment

Garden Party

  • Venue: Caius booking confirmation to be found out on Friday 15th May
  • St John's and Selwyn booking have not responded
  • Action: Harry (hh328) to follow up on the above colleges in regards to a response
  • Contingency plan: everyone to ask friends in regards to booking their college gardens, possibly even a public place if needed
  • Budget: Had set a budget of £400 for the garden party, may need to increase
  • £120 of £200 of the food&drink budget has been used already by Sean (slz22)
  • Possible extra £100 budget for food&drink
  • Action: Sean (slz22) to contact various restaurants and takeaway for prices
  • Remainder £100 for the events - Harry (hh328) looked at bouncy castle prices, as low as £60
  • Outdoor speakers and microphone to be sorted
  • Action: Tony (ttq20) to contact various places in regards to prices
  • Moving the gazebos/tables/giant games from Churchill a potential problem due to time constraints
  • Action: Lynn (elk31) to contact various taxi companies and see if they will take them. Perhaps even removal companies if cheap?
  • Action: Yi (yl381) to look on eBay or printing company for wristbands. Harry (hh328) stated that Hui gave him about 20 or so left from before
  • Events: Booze Fun Day / Be the Booze King!
  • Organised into teams, roughly 5 or 6 teams
  • Obstacle course, relay, drink from a massive straw, running with pints (of water) and blindfold
  • Miss ABACUS
  • Blind date, sexy walk?
  • Annie (aph37) as the hostess/presenter of the show!

GenComm

  • Positions to be confirmed
  • Action: Yi (yl381) to email those with a position on the general committee

Collaboration

  • George Lee, the founder, presented a few ideas for the future
  • Alumni dinner possibly next term, if contact is made with the alumni network
  • Invite other ABACUS societies to come up for the dinner?
  • Yi (yl381) mentioned that her friend has started an ABACUS Oxford. Look to possibility of Oxbridge involvement especially for the boat party next year
  • ChiSoc are interested in a paintballing event
  • HKCAS are interested in a formal
  • Sean (slz22) mentioned the requests of postings on the mailing list. Raised issue of mutual benefit if it is the case and questioned the relevance for our members
  • Dragon boat racing: Annie (aph37) mentioned that it would take place on the 28th June this year, sign up costs £450 but see if negotiable. Need to determine interest in an event out of Cambridge and in London
